A Northern Tr*nny Hootenanny
Hunter’s debut musical ‘A Northern Tr*nny Hootenanny’ (ANTH) is inspired by the true story of his transition and how discovering drag and meeting his drag dad, the late, great Valentino King, helped him discover his authentic self. The show draws on his lived experience, the rich history of trans men living their authentic lives in the wild west, his love for Disney and musical theatre.
A self-proclaimed ‘Tr*nny’, Hunter believes that in this current cultural and political climate, reclamation and visibility are vital. His work is about Trans Hope and Joy and the journey of discovering our authentic self.
The work-in-progress scratch performance of ANTH was platformed in 2024 at Turn on fest - Hope Mill Theatre, LOUD Cabaret - The Met, Pride in Trafford - Waterside Arts and Queer Hope and Joy - Contact.
Hunter has received funding and support from Waterside Arts, Creative Industries Trafford, LGBT Foundation and Greater Manchester LGBT+ Arts and Culture Network, Arts Council DYCP and Keep it Fringe Fund 2025 to develop and platform his brand new musical.
So far ANTH has had a 5 night sold out at Waterside Arts, Sale. Will have a 2 week run at the Edinburgh Fringe festival and show at Shrewsbury Pride.
FACILITATION AND WORKSHOPS
Hunter King is a DBS checked facilitator available to hire for a range of workshops. He has worked hosting workshops on a range of techniques with organisations like Superbia, Manchester Pride, Youth Pride MCR, Shrewsbury Pride and Canal Street Kings.
Workshops focus on a variety of techniques Hunter has honed over a decade of performing and producing for entertainment. These can range from Drag King techniques; facial hair workshops, styling and rhinestoning and vocal and lip synching techniques. To more generalised workshops on performance and confidence building.

Canal Street Kings occasionally receives funding to put on local drag king workshops around community in Manchester, which are free to attend. Please keep an eye out on @canalstreetkings insta for our latest shows and workshops.
I have experience in perfoming solo cabaret shows, with live vocals and comedy as well as variety shows with other performers. I am a reknown club DJ and host. Hosting everything from brunches to prides. After spending the last few years working exclusively for an entertainment company, I'm packing my van and touring the entire UK!
